"BDS in Ireland: Shops nix Israeli goods, but fine with N. Korean, Iranian products" - 30 Jun 2015
Ami Horowitz, an American Jewish satirist, released a video on Tuesday of a report from Ireland, "ground zero" of the BDS movement.
What happens when Irish store owners are faced with a choice between engaging in commerce with Israel or doing business with regimes like North Korea, Iran, and Sudan?
Ami Horowitz, an American Jewish satirist, released a video on Tuesday of a report from Ireland, "ground zero" of the BDS movement, in which the locals are adamant about not carrying Israeli products but are perfectly agreeable to help the economies of despotic regimes.
"The boycotting of Israel is an insidious, noxious movement that needs to be fully exposed to the public," Horowitz told Fox News commentator Sean Hannity. "BDS supporters are less human rights advocates and more anti-Israel bigots. I wanted to give them an opportunity to showcase that bigotry on a global platform." ...
'Bookkeeper of Auschwitz', survivor testify as trial nears end - AFP
Lueneburg (Germany) (AFP) - A former SS officer known as the "bookkeeper of Auschwitz" and a woman who survived the Nazi death camp delivered wrenching testimony in a German courtroom Wednesday as his historic trial neared a verdict.
German national Oskar Groening, 94, stands accused of 300,000 counts of "accessory to murder" in the cases of deported Hungarian Jews sent to the gas chambers between May and July 1944.
He has acknowledged "moral guilt" but denied any legal culpability since the trial in the northern city of Lueneburg near Hamburg opened in April.
In a statement to the court read out by one of his attorneys Wednesday, Groening expressed his "humility and guilt before the survivors and victims' families".
He also stressed that he bore "shared guilt for the Holocaust, although my part was small". But he "expressly" stopped short of asking for "forgiveness for my guilt".
"In view of the scale of the crimes committed in Auschwitz and in other places, I do not believe I am entitled to make such a request," he said. "I can only ask my Lord God for forgiveness." ...
"Obama signs anti-BDS bill into law" - Times of Israel
President approves provisions making rejection of Israel boycott a key objective in trade talks with EU
WASHINGTON — After a grueling legislative battle, US President Barack Obama signed into law a controversial trade measure that also contains landmark legislation combating the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement in Europe.
The broader legislation faced an uphill battle after Obama's usual allies — Democrats in the House of Representative — bucked his authority and voted against key provisions out of concern that liberalization of trade could impact American jobs.
But on Monday, Obama signed into law the so-called "fast track" authorization that will allow US trade negotiators to work out a long-awaited deal with Asian states known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The Trade Promotion Authority legislation also contained the anti-BDS provisions, which make rejection of the phenomenon a top priority for US negotiators as they work on a more distant free trade agreement with the European Union. ...

European Jewry is all in the same boat, and that boat is slowly but surely sinking. That, at least, was the impression from a roundtable conversation Tuesday at the Jerusalem Press Club with leaders from 25 of the continent's Jewish communities. ...
"BDS movement seeks to empty Israel of Jews", former Spanish PM says - JPost
Jose Maria Aznar shares his thoughts on the boycott movement and his vision for Israel to be an integral part of the West.
"...Amid the controversy surrounding the CEO of Orange's statement regarding the curtailing of his company's business in Israel, Aznar agreed to speak with The Jerusalem Post's Hebrew-language sister publication Maariv-Hashavua in order to express his steadfast objection to the BDS movement.
"I think BDS is an unfair, discriminatory movement based on a moral double standard that is, in the final analysis, anti-Semitic," Aznar told Maariv.
"Declaring its aim to put pressure on the Israel government, BDS is in fact trying to harm every Israeli citizen and not only the government. In reality what BDS wants is to make life in Israel intolerable so the Jewish nation will not be able to have a normal existence in its state. BDS does not only want to change the government's policy, it wants to empty the country of Jews," Aznar said. ..."
